As if the events of May Day weren’t exciting enough already, New Yorkers now have another reason to start counting down to next Tuesday. Das Racist, Dan Deacon, Tom Morello, Immortal Technique, The New York Labor Chorus and Bobby Sanabria will perform at a rally in Union Square on May 1, starting at 4 p.m. That line-up is only the beginning, as organizers say they have reached out to other acts such as Talib Kweli, David Byrne and The Roots, and are waiting to hear back. In addition, Morello will lead the Guitarmy of 1,000 musicians, a gathering of New York-area guitarists and string players from complete beginner to master shredder as they march throughout Manhattan before the concert.
There will be plenty of other activities throughout the day for everyone to participate in, including free food, services, workshops, discussions, performances, and of course, plenty of protesting. Organizers are working to create a safe and family-friendly atmosphere for everyone to voice their opinions.
Get ready to rock and protest. For more information on May Day, please visit: maydaysolidarity2012.org.
